Cllr. Maureen Lea

Cllr. Merry has posted the very sad news on this blog that Labour Councillor Maureen Lea passed away yesterday. Maureen lived in Claremont and represented the Pendlebury ward – I believe she was suffering from cancer. Though I usually disagreed with her, I liked and respected Maureen, who was a good councillor and dedicated to making the City a better place to live in. My heart goes out to Bernard, her husband, who also represents Pendlebury ward. This is especially shocking news because Maureen had recently made an appearance at the council and whenever we enquired, her colleages from nearby wards assured us she was on the mend. Sad news indeed.

Very sad news indeed. I have a great deal of respect for both Maureen and Bernard, ironic to say when I heard yesterday I looked on the Council web site for official confirmation, and found a post entitled “women of inspiration”, perhaps the Mayor will dedicate this lunch to Maureen’s memory. My thought are too with Bernard and this sad time

Ditto. Hard as nails, she gave little quarter in council, We spoke once in two and a half years and that was when she was giving me some stick. I have little friends within the labour Group but she was one of the few you felt you could respect. I send my thoughts in this sad time to bernard and family. Our thoughts go with you.
    Joe and Martin.
